At least as important as the immense price advantage for our customers is the fact that we can also produce small batches of 200 or more economically," emphasizes Thomas Stek, sales manager at Hubl Edelstahltechnik. In addition, flexible component designs can be realized, creating new possibilities for designers and component designers. The company harnesses the power of water, which uses high pressure to form the stainless steel sheet parts. Because there are no deep-drawing dies "working" on the part, the surface finish is very high. The part can be used immediately in the visible area without post-processing. Previously downstream operations such as welding, grinding and polishing are completely eliminated. Hubl passes this savings on to its customers.
Produce small batches and prototypes at low cost.
For example, covers made of stainless steel for operating terminals in the food sector are produced process-safe in IP 65. Small forming degrees for the insertion of a membrane keypad are immediately in the final contour after forming. Stek sees virtually no limitations in the design of 3D free-form surfaces and promises new design possibilities for constructors and designers. The main advantage, however, is the elimination of the thermoforming tool. "Above all, this also significantly shortens the time to the first finished part. This also makes the process ideally suited for new parts and prototypes," says Stek.
Since a pressurized fluid acts on the sheet, there is no direct contact with otherwise standard deep-drawing tools. The sheet metal lays against a mold when the maximum necessary forming pressure is reached. No stresses or springbacks occur in the sheet metal part. The material is evenly distributed and applied to the mold. This makes optimum use of it and results in homogeneous strengths. The result is excellent surfaces on the sheet metal parts formed in this way, which can be used immediately without reworking such as grinding or polishing, even in demanding, high-quality visual and image applications. Sheet thicknesses from 0.3 mm and up to 3.0 mm can be formed inexpensively with the new process at Hubl Edelstahltechnik.
