High quality corner forming.
"We now form the corners of stainless steel sheets cold and do not change the microstructure in the process, as is the case with thermal processes," emphasizes Thomas Stek, the sales manager at Hubl Edelstahltechnik. With the corner forming machine, sheets for doors, lids, hoods or covers are cold worked at the corners in a forming process. In a tool-based process, the sheet metal is formed into the desired shape in a single process step that is like a mixture of deep drawing and rolling. Compared with conventional processes, there is no seam that has to be welded. The corner is in its final shape after the forming process. Only excess material may still have to be trimmed to the upstand height, but this can also be done directly on the machine. The sheets to be formed at the corners must be specially preformed according to the subsequent corner shape. This special know-how of cutting to size later ensures completion in one step during the forming process.
Savings are passed on to customers
Previous downstream work steps such as welding, grinding and polishing are completely eliminated. Hubl Edelstahltechnik passes this saving on to its customers. However, Stek is also enthusiastic about the process: "Welding in particular changed the structure of the material at the corner seams due to its heat input and also required complex grinding and polishing operations. Now we save all that. The corner is visually flawless after the process."
Not all sheet metal can be reshaped with the corner former. And the corner height is also limited, depending on the thickness of the sheet. Thus, corner angles of 60-150° and corner radii of 2-100 mm can be created for stainless steel sheets of half a millimeter to two millimeters in thickness. The edge height can be between 7.5 and 25 mm.
